Make a Statement

Spring has finally sprung, and we are all in the mood for revamping, clearing out and freshening up our homes. The simplest way of refreshing your rooms, without splashing out on paint, is by changing your accessories. Curtains are best kept a neutral colour as these can be costly, but colourful tie-backs are a purse-friendly alternative, and can be easily replaced. Cushions, vases and lampshades are all a great way of sprucing up a room and adding a splash of colour. Pictured here are four cushions from my new range, not yet available on my etsy shop, but can be purchased through Facebook.

Hollywood - add some old Hollywood glamour with these starlets, in black and white with splashes of red

Comic Strip - inject fun into your room with this bold comic print

Lapamanzi - meaning 'watering hole', this vibrant cushion brings an African vibe for the modern safari look

Rose Garden - this vintage style rose print is perfect to transform your home to cottage chic

Game of Thrones - Are you an addict?

With Game of Thrones in it's third season, I thought it was time to catch up on the craze. Already halfway through season two and can admit that I'm an addict. Blood, gore and mind games aren't my usual viewing choice, but the costumes and sets are amazing. I was able to bag myself tickets for the exhibition world tour in June, and can't wait to claim the Iron Throne for myself. If you are also a fan, check out jointherealm.com to make your own crest. I chose the squid as it has eight arms, as I can always do with an extra set of hands, and changed the Greyjoy motto from 'We Do Not Sow', to 'We Do Nothing But Sew'.

After a shifty through etsy's most talented, I have found some great Game of Thrones themed items. Here are my top picks for each house.

House Greyjoy - this hand carved slate octopus can be used as a wall hanging, but I prefer the idea of having it as a placemat. She makes them in all of the house emblems, so why not have a different one for each setting (and maybe an iron throne at the top of your table?)

House Stark - impress at dinner parties and be leader of the pack with this ornate wolf bottle stopper.

House Lannister - for the die-hard fan, this wall transfer certainly stands out and will have your guests talking. Available in all houses and a variety of colours.

House Targaryen - this adorable dragon coat hook is set in bronze and would make the perfect accessory for your home. Octopus also available.

House Baratheon - love the effect without the gore factor, this environmentally friendly stag's head would look great in a hallway or dining room.

All of this research has inspired me to create my own range of Game of Thrones cushions, so watch this space!

Dare to desire the undesirable?

Introducing the Undesirable Collection. These designs are for those who like something a little darker. I'm a big lover of all things weird and wacky, creepy and 'different'. In fact, I love Hallowe'en so much that I celebrate it more than Christmas. So when I saw these fabrics, I just had to have them. They all come with vintage rose on the reverse, so you can easily mix and match them, or have all four!

Victorian Portraits - unquestionably the prettiest and dantiest of the collection, this cushion brings all of the colours together in a gorgeous pattern.

Ghastly Portraits - have you ever felt like you were being watched... Creepy portraits with moving eyes, somewhat reminiscent of haunted houses and good old-fashioned horror movies.

Salem - witches huddle in their covens alongside houses that look like they hold many secrets. There is only one town that this could be.

Conspicuous Figures - hushed whispers, sideways glances. Somebody is hiding something...

Shabby Chic Nail Art

Last week I was treated to getting my nails done with some of my old Bloomfield school chums. It was great having a catch-up over a homemade veggie dinner (made by my friends hubby), chocolates and having our nails painted. Zane's Nails is run by Zane Fraser, and she can do any design you have your heart set on and at a very reasonable price. Zane is so friendly, she just felt like one of the gang, you don't see the time fly in! I opted for very matching nails, as I like symmetry and colour coordination, in a shabby chic theme. Mint green with peach roses, stripes and cute little birdcage transfers adorned my nails. My friends had lovely nails too with bunting, glitter, leopard print and even tiny little moustache transfers, our hands looked amazing.

Visit Zane's Nails on Facebook.

Paris in Spring - new fabric arrivals

The Eiffel Tower is regarded as one of the worlds most romantic monuments, and springtime is when Paris is at it's most beautiful. After previously selling out of these gorgeous Eiffel Tower printed cushions, I have brought them back in the original colours along with new zesty ones. Pictured here is the kitsch turquoise and red print, it comes with red on reverse. Also, you can see the sexy hot pink and black version, guaranteed to bring back memories of those steamy summer nights in Paris. It comes with hot pink or black on reverse. Another returning original is the baby pink with brown print, a perfect representation of blossoming romance. New colours include citrus lemon with hot pink and tangy lime with turquoise. I can't wait to have these new prints uploaded onto my etsy shop, however the previous three are already available. I promise to get sewing and have the new ones up this week.
